Aaron graduated from The University of Melbourne with a degree in Forestry, but went on to be the youngest appointed Governor of a Melbourne University College and was the founder of the highly successful Kids Teaching Kids program to educate students about environmental issues.
In 2003, Wood received The Centenary Medal for outstanding contributions in support of conservation and the environment, as awarded by the Governor-General of Australia. He subsequently won the 2006 United Nations Individual Award for Outstanding Service to the Environment, and was then named the 2007 Prime Minister's Australian Environmentalist of the Year.
In 2012 Arron Wood was elected to Melbourne City Council, and he now acts as The Deputy Lord Mayor. He is responsible for several portfolios within the City of Melbourne, but remains strongly connected to his forest and environmental interests within his various committee roles at the City of Melbourne.
